Aquila, Inc.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Aquila, Inc. (NYSE:ILA) operates electricity and natural gas distribution networks serving customers in seven U.S. states and in Canada and the United Kingdom. Aquila also owns and operates power generation assets. The actions of Aquila employees are guided by the company's Code of Business Conduct and other corporate governance documents.
Previously UtiliCorp United, the company changed its name and stock symbol in 2002. Aquila (pronounced ah-KWIL-uh) is the name of a constellation and Latin for "eagle." At June 30, 2003, Aquila had total assets of $8.4 billion.

Aquila Networks
Our electric and natural gas distribution utilities, which previously operated under various division names, do business as Aquila Networks. We deliver energy through networks of wires and pipes serving seven states in the Mid-continent. Aquila Networks serves 438,000 electric distribution customers in three states: Missouri, Kansas and Colorado; and 891,000 natural gas distribution customers in seven states: Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota.
The Energy Resources group of Aquila Networks is responsible for U.S. regulated power activities, including fuel, purchase power, generation dispatch and services to 431,000 wholesale electric distribution customers in Missouri, Kansas and Colorado.
Capacity Services
Aquila owns or controls approximately 3,625 megawatts of non-regulated power generation. Our Capacity Services operation has 21 projects in 11 states and Jamaica. Our asset portfolio includes generation; natural gas transportation; and a coal terminal and handling facility. We currently serve utility and industrial clients in several parts of the United States.
Everest Connections
Efforts by Everest Connections, majority owned by Aquila, Inc., are concentrated in the Kansas City, Missouri, metropolitan area. The company offers a range of broadband services to residential and business customers, including local and long-distance telephone, cable television and high-speed Internet/data services.
International
Canada
Our wholly owned Canadian operation, Aquila Networks Canada, distributes electricity in Alberta and the southern interior of British Columbia. Aquila Networks Canada provides electricity for 390,000 electric distribution customers in Alberta and 93,000 in British Columbia. The operation also owns and operates more than 100,000 kilometers of power lines in South-Central British Columbia and Southern and Central Alberta, as well as generating hydroelectric power and managing the retail accounts of distribution customers in British Columbia.
Previously operating as West Kootenay Power and UtiliCorp Networks Canada, the company has been active in Canada since 1987. Headquartered in Calgary - the energy capital for Alberta and Canada - Aquila Networks Canada and its 1,100 employees are rapidly establishing themselves as professionals and industry leaders among the country's utility providers.

Aquila owns a 79.9 percent interest in Midlands Electricity - now Aquila Networks UK, the fourth-largest regional electric company in the United Kingdom. Aquila Networks UK has a distribution network that provides electricity under long-term contract to a retail power provider serving 2.3 million customers in and around the city of Birmingham, England and parts of Staffordshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Hereford and Worcester. The company also holds interests in three independent power plants.
